Michael J. Macaluso

Michael Macaluso is the Chairman of Global Access Capital, an independent direct private investor, operating partner, and strategic advisor, and is also the Managing Partner of Macaluso LLP. He has significant investment banking experience and was a partner with leading global law firms for many years. Mr. Macaluso brings tremendous focus, energy, and enthusiasm to his clients and their endeavors.

He has a long track record in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Middle East executing multi-national direct private equity and capital markets strategies, joint ventures and acquisitions, building operating platforms, managing legal and compliance, and leading turn-around and growth strategies. Significant experience investing in, and working with, evolving and growth-oriented companies, particularly in financial services, healthcare, and agribusiness, in the U.S. and internationally to help drive global growth.

He also has significant experience advising some of the world’s leading large and middle-market institutions, funds, and companies in domestic and cross-border capital markets transactions and in connection with multi-billion dollar financial, corporate finance, and highly structured transactions, projects and programs, including as internal general counsel for the global treasury group of a US$120 billion financial institution affiliate of a Fortune 25 company with operations across three continents.

As a practice leader and partner with global law firms, he pioneered the multi-dimensional platform at the heart of Global Access to serve the growing demand of global business.

He has a distinctive hands-on approach to the deal management process that bridges the cultural, geographic, language and logistical divides that stand in the way of accomplishing transactions or investments in companies, projects, or countries.

During the financial crisis, Mr. Macaluso worked on government bailouts and private restructurings in the U.S. and Europe. He led teams assisting banks, governments, issuers, sponsors of complex instruments, many types of investment funds and others in maintaining, obtaining and in some cases restructuring or working out over US$150 billion of liquidity.

He taught capital markets at the University of Minnesota Law School for over a decade and has guest lectured at universities in a number of countries.

Mr. Macaluso received his JD from the University of Chicago Law School, his MBA, with honors, from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and his BA, summa cum laude, from Lehigh University.
